HIFU FOR RADIATION FAILURE
Radiation therapy is the most common treatment for prostate cancer in men across the world. Radiation failure occurs in 22 to 69% of patients after treatment. Over 90% of men with recurrence after radiation are treated with hormonal therapy with no chance of cure. The availability of HIFU in the U.S. is causing a complete reevaluation in the field. There are criteria for early diagnosis of local recurrence and cure is possible with HIFU.HIFUalso has much less sideffects than currently available treatments

What is HIFU?
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound uses heat in a focused manner to burn and destroy affected tissue while preserving normal, healthy tissue. Much like a magnifying glass can concentrate sunlight to burn through an object, HIFU uses focused sound waves to target cancerous areas of the prostate. HIFU is US FDA approved. HIFU is outpatient, uses no scalpel, needles or radiation, takes 1-3 hours, and does not cause life-altering side effects such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence.
